07/07/2009, Up in the Delta
FINALLY, the boat is ready and all systems are GO! We took off and headed up into the Delta for the 4Th of July 'extended-week-end' on the Lat-38 "DELTA DOO DAH". We were the only power boat out of the 30 boats, so I felt like we won the 'no-comprende' division (if there had been a division-like in the Ha Ha) We had a great passage from Alameda up to Mandeville Island, and then to Stockton where the Stockton Sailing Club put on quite a 'shindig' for us. It was almost like being back in Mexico - here we were buddy-boating with Shiraz and Renegade again....the three of us hadn't been at the same place at the same time since "Z-Town" in Jan '07 when we were on ESPIRITU. And . . . , speaking of ESPIRITU, we met actually them coming back home from the Delta as were were approaching the straights at Vallejo. What a kick to be cruising along and look up to see our old boat coming right at us. We stopped and chatted for a bit, took photos, and headed out again. It brought back lots of memories, and it was nice to see them our continuing the fun on her!
PEREGRIN cruised right along at 1750 rpm's, and depending on the tide boost we went along at better than 8 mph all the time, and hit 10 as we cruised through some spots. She really handled the trip home to the Bay fantasticly. The wind was against us at better than 15 mph, and the tide was going out (with us). So the waves were being stacked-up and blown over, and for a couple hours we had 3 to 4 footers, and at one point for a half-hour, some a little bigger. But there was NO pounding, no green water over the bow, only a bunch of wind-blown spray. A great ride!
Now that we have really been able to use her at least once, she is officially on the market. It would have been a shame to sell her without getting to go for at least ONE cruise. And this was special to me, because it was almost a re-inactment of the cruise my Pop took us on when I was still in grade school, . . we cruised from Stockton to The Bay and back on the old wooden cruiser we had restored back in the early 50's. So this was fun!! The fire works were great out on the water. This photo is thanks to Phil & Nora on Shiraz.

It was a great weekend of sailing, fun, dinners, father's day, and a short "shake-down" cruise on PEREGRINE. We left Alameda and a little less than two hours we were at the BYC. When it came time to go back on Sunday afternoon I reacted like a typical power boat guy: it was windy and a big chop, so we decided to stay at the dock until the wind started to drop a bit. We had a great fathers-day tri tip BBQ at the YC, then around 6:30 headed back and were in our slip by 8:00. In a few days we'll head to the Bay again to do part of the Delta Doo Dah on the trawler. In between I am getting som work done, this aint bad!! Here's another shot of the G-25 races. I'm up on the deck doing the "fore-deck-dance". It is as exciting as an 'ol-guy needs it to be, even tho it's with a 155% genny instead of with a spinnaker. More later. Pat

06/21/2009, S.F. Bay on the Olympic Circle
Well we made it back out on the water again!! Gary Preston (our crew on the first -shortened-leg of the Ha Ha) and I, were the crew for Scott Hefty for the Catalina 25 National Regatta on SF Bay the weekend of June 19 - 21, AND WE WERE VERY FORTUNATE!!!!
We won the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP! We took our division in the Friday night practice race, and were third overall in the race behind a J -boat and a Santana 22. Then we took 4 - firsts and 1 - second in the Saturday and Sunday racing with the C-25's.
Carole and I took the trawler up to the Berkeley YC and stayed at the guest dock, and Phill & Nora brought SHIRAZ up as the official 'photo-boat' and it was a great week-end. More later. Pat
