Market Day

Today was market day proper. Very busy, whole families arriving by canoe, wives in best cotton dresses. An oportunity for socialising as well as buying and selling. There were some stalls, but also bananas, mangoes and spices piled on the ground. Not much variety but all local produce, the region is especially known for its spices. We bought a huge bunch of bananas from one of the canoes but as the farmer did not have any change we had the value in mangoes and I made Jam.
By lunchtime it was all over and canoes departed laden with flour and other supplies to last until next market.
