Waterfall

Today tried another track out of the village hoping to find the waterfall and dam which provided the village supply. The path was wider than before and well used with numerous small cultivated plots either side. It climbed slowly along the valley, we could hear the river but not see it through the thick vegetation. The path was probably high enough to be out of reach of flooding but near enough to fetch water for the plots. The main crop again appeared to be dalo and cassava although there was also some taro. Taro seems to like damp shady places. Passed by some people with large machetes carrying trees they had cut and some wild chillies they showed us where to find them. Gathered some which I hope to be able to dry for later use. They said route to falls was easy just go up and then down, so we went up up up and then down but there were lots of different downs all steep some of which appeared to go up again and others disappeared into the abyss so we gave up It was very frustrating as we could hear fast running water not far off, the only consolation was the chillies and good exercise (we must have sweated off pounds) If we find the village plumber again we will have to get better directions
