The Moeraki Boulders were interesting but it was dificult to get a photo as there were so many other people there. They were very round and like giant marbles although some were cracked. Some of the stones even looked as if they had been cemented back together. The beach used to be covered in small round stones as well, but anything small enough to carry has been taken as souvenirs long ago. I paid a $ to go and see them, Chris did not bother but it turned out that you could access the beach further along and walk.
Oamaru is a pleasant old town with many old buildings and two colonies of penguins! both yellow and blue. We did not see either. In common with many small NZ towns has very wide main street which was to enable the bullock wagons to turn around.
It has many neoclassical stone buildings built from local limestone known as Oamaru Stone, an intact Victorian Precinct and Harbour Area.
Many tourist shops but found an interesting wool warehouse and a shop selling Ashford Spinning Wheels, much cheaper than at home and many different styles including folding portable ones.
Another great find was a cheese shop selling really good cheese difficult to choose what to buy but had to be selective as they were quite expensive
