Vuda

We have been in Vuda a few days and will be leaving Fiji tomorrow. The generator was not as repaired as we thought and will involve some major expenses, it still leaks but we will be able to use it a little as long as we watch out for overheating. We have filled water tanks and recharged batteries so hopefully will not need generator until after arrival in New Caledonia. Shopped today in Lautoka going in on the bus but returning by taxi. The excellent air conditioning (no windows) gave us a very dusty ride as there has been no rain for a few days and the busy cane lorries throw up a lot of dust. Good choice of veggies on the market and even some fruit. Meat from Fiji meats so that should be good as well but we have to be careful not to overstock as anything left over will be confiscated on arrival in New Caledonia.
It has been very hot and humid while here so very glad of electric and air conditioning (we have been able to keep cabin temperature at a comfortable daytime temperature of 23 degrees C).

Holiday drawing to a close

We are back in Denarau on a mooring as we could not get into marina. The super yachts are still here although Tom Cruise has left. We have had several enjoyable weeks in Musket Cove, swimming, snorkelling and walking around island. The walks are still limited because of my knee and Chris's back. I still need the stick and Chris has to stop every few yards to stretch his back. He looks as if he is about to ski somewhere and people are always stopping to ask him if he is OK which is rather embarrassing but very kind of them as I do not suppose anyone would at home.

Repairs to generator had been completed which was a great relief as carting water containers around is no fun (the water maker is generator dependent), it is also needed for charging batteries and water heating

Nadi is a short ride away on the dollar bus, which seems to run about every 15 minutes. I do not like the town much (apart from the Hindu Temple) but it is much cheaper to shop there than in Denarau

Weather has been mixed and although there have been plenty of sunny days there has also been a fair bit of rain and that means mozzies! On the days they appear we try and walk on the ridge where you get the wind or along the beach. Chris still has to do his 'skiing' to stretch his back every few minutes, the holiday makers give him some funny looks but the locals usually ask if he is alright and offer him a lift if they are in one of the buggies

Am back to blogging after a month unable to post photos or comments and other general difficulties. I have been blaming 'sailblogs' but today used Firefox found it was all because of Microsoft Edge which I have been using recently as I was told it wasted less battery power. It will take some time to catch up but will get there eventually.

Denarau

Spending a few days in Denarau to get our generator repaired. While there caught the dollar bus into Nadi to shop for meat and vegetables. The meat was good but the market not as good as Suva or SavuSavu. Although repairs successful we hoped to stay a few extra days as the weather forecast was for heavy rain over the weekend but we were told that our berth was needed for another boat. so returned to Musket and a mooring. We went to a nice wine tasting at Victoria wines sponsored by Selini (Hawkes Bay) managed to also consume a large amount of Palma Ham and cheese. We also came away with a dozen bottles of wine, I wonder how long it will last?

Gentle overnight trip along the coast from Suva, some beautiful sunsets and arrived earl morning in time to grab a mooring near the marina. Fully stocked up so no need to rush ashore to shop but looking forward to walking around the island and sunbathing by the pool
