Event Horizon II's Trip South
Back In The USA
Peter - Sunny Warm, Windy
2008/04/03, Fort Pierce, Florida, USA

Picture is of the Atlantic Ocean deck at Nippers Bar on Green Turtle Cay.

We are back in the USA. The overnight trip across the Gulf Stream was rough as expected. No one got much sleep with the movement of the boat in confused seas. Large ship traffic was light and not close. The current entering Fort Pierce channel was running 3.5 knots out creating a nasty rage from the entering waves. It was the worst part of the trip. We tied up in a marina, cleared customs at the airport and got some rest. Out for a celebration dinner and bed for a good nights sleep. We will have to get accustomed to North American life again. It was odd to drive on the right side of the road and see so many people. Thanks for the good wishes.

Florida Or Bust
Peter - Sunny Warm, Little Wind
2008/04/02, Little Bahama Bank, Bahamas

Picture was just taken as we cross the Little Bahama Bank.

This update will be sent by SSB radio. We are a long way from settlements.

We are motoring in near dead calm dodging squalls and thunderstorms. We should reach the Straits of Florida about 02:00 am April 3. After we leave the banks we must cross the Gulf Stream to Fort Pierce Florida. Large Atlantic swells which will start to reach us then could make the crossing interesting. Current ETA for Florida is 10:00 am. I will try to send periodic position reports. Click the Position Reports link to the right to view our progress.

Hope the crossing goes well! The excitement of the Gulf Stream will be remembered no matter what happens. John & I still get a rush when we think back to those crossings. Safe passage.

By the looks of position report, you're making good progress. Trust you'll be able to dodge the storms and make landfall later today. Goodluck and hope to see both Cheryl and you soon. We may not have saved any snow for you afterall--I know you'll be heartbroken about that.

Print screen that I took from Grand Bend's webcam a couple of minutes ago. As you can see, almost all the white stuff is gone.

Hope that you reach Florida without any big adventures. Weather here is still cold so don't hurry home yet.
We're Not Coming Back!
Peter - Sunny Warm Windy Day With Some Rain Squalls
2008/04/01, Green Turtle Cay, Abacos, Bahamas

Picture is a street scene in New Plymouth. It is April first after all! Our plan is to leave here early Wednesday morning and make a run for Ft. Pierce Florida. It should take from 24 to 28 hours. You can follow along on the position reporter. We will be traveling with s/v Cygnus. Other boats are also planning to leave for this weather window. If conditions are bad we will stop at Great Sale Cay in the northern Abacos.
