Yes seriously. This is a Perkins 6.354 out of a farm truck.
Could this be Burn.E ? (Noah's name for our engine-to-be). I'm trying not to be put off by the looks of the thing. But more knowledgeable people tell me it just needs an overhaul and to be marinized... We'll see what the Perkins people have to say.
In any case its a pretty cool photo.

Congratulations on your project. Sally and I are just back from Piriapolis, Uruguay, visiting the crew of Seal, which is getting her first haulout since they left England in 2006. (The boat was fitted out beneath our apple tree in 2004/5.) We are still in awe of how well the Chuck Paine / Ed Joy design works. I am sure you will have many happy years aboard her sister ship, Eva. Blue skies! -- Dan Ford

Here are frames 1 and 2...
The pile of frames is getting bigger. Can you see how strong those frames are?
For me THIS is the biggest luxury.
Not a freezer, fridge, air-con, or latest electronic gadget...

Since we visited 2 weeks ago there is so much more to look at! The Jacobs are really moving along, so many parts are recognizable: the keel box front panel (excuse my terminology I just don't know what else to call these things unless it's in its entirety), the profile of the bow (oh so pretty), bulkheads, the frames (so many of them) full of little notches, all waiting to be put together like those 3D wooden dinosaur puzzles we had as kids...

Our first winches!

I woke up this morning with a feeling akin to that of the excitement one experiences on Christmas Eve when one is 5 yrs old. Yet I am 30 and all we did was purchase 2 brand new Antal winches at an awesome discount*. The moment was full of tingly sparkles. I can already imagine them on the mast bravely pulling up our spinnaker halyard...
*60% off! They were ordered by someone else who imagined them bigger and self-tailing, since then they have been shunted around from Port Elizabeth to Capetown and have had some mileage. Although they are none the worse for wear. Only hitch is we didn't get the pretty box they came in.

Wow! Who would have thought that piles of aluminum sheets could bring up such strong emotions!
We where so stoked to see the 2 bulkheads, piles of frames, lofting board, and unidentifiable-as-yet pieces of alloy, there was even the beginnings of an anchor locker! We have an anchor locker! Yes!
Amazing to be able to touch and see, instead of imagine and dream...

Welcome, and congratulations! I always dreamed of building my own also. Please post often. What are the details of your new dream? Hope to see you out there some day.

Well we've dreamed of this moment for years and here we are. We've got the plans and the builders, now the real fun starts.

Hi, looks good your design and plans. Always like to see sailing family's planning, we are planning on building the Bluewater 60 from Phil Southwell and home building the rest like you. Just waiting for a kids to get a little older and then we will be off. Hope to see you out their one day. Craig, Yuki, Nina and one on the way.
