Day 48 Ganges to Friday Harbor

08 September 2019 | Friday Harbor
Carole Miller | Partly sunny
We arrived back in the US and to Friday Harbor around 1:00pm, we cleared customs, went shopping, did some laundry and went out to dinner. We went to the Driftwood that overlooks the harbor and had the best Seafood Cobb salad ever! Tomorrow we are going to Sucia Island to meet up with friends and join our yacht club for the final cruise of the season, we are excited to see everyone. On Friday we head home to La Conner so this will be our last post for this adventure. I want to thank those of you who followed us on our over 2,000 mile journey, its been a great trip and we really enjoyed hearing from so many of you!

Day 47 Ladysmith to Ganges

07 September 2019 | Ganges
Carole Miller | Partly sunny
What a fun day we had! I love Ganges, it's really a progressive town and very artsy. We always try to come on a Saturday because they have the best Farmers Market, today they also had a Pride Parade so there were lots of very colorful people here, as well as singing and dancing in the park. We had lunch then found a bar called My Local Pub , had a beer and listened to a band of 3 older guys that looked like they could have been in The Beach Boys, and they were really good. We also bought a piece of art from a local artist at the Market to fill the space on top of our bar at home. We had a very friendly visitor on our dock late this afternoon so I took his photo and he gets to have the special spot on the blog. Tomorrow we go back into the USA and will go to Friday Harbor because we need to provision for the next five days.

Day 46 Nanaimo to Ladysmith

06 September 2019 | Ladysmith
Carole Miller | Sunny
Another beautiful day! Today is a really short day and we are excited to go somewhere new again. We arrived in Ladysmith at 1:00pm so after we got checked in we walked into town which is through the woods, up concrete stairs and all uphill until you get to the main street. We asked a couple of people where to go for lunch and a cold beer and we were told Zack's Lounge and what a great find, good food and good beer and a really cool woman bartender This is a neat area and I'm glad we came here, tomorrow we go to one of our favorites, Ganges on Salt Spring Island.

Day 45 Pender Harbor to Nanaimo

05 September 2019 | Nanaimo
Carole Miller | Sunny
What a beautiful morning! We decided to cross the Strait of Georgia again and go to Nanaimo, the water wasn't as nice as yesterday but it was still good. We didn't leave until almost 11:00am this morning because it is only around 30 miles from Pender Harbor so we arrived mid afternoon. Sonny put Cody's "message in a bottle" back in the water after we got underway, hopefully someone else will find it and have fun with it like we did. It was pretty hot when we arrived so the first thing we did was go and have a cold beer, do some shopping, eat dinner and then go for a walk to get gelato. Now we are sitting on the boat listening to a guy on the end of the dock sing and play his guitar and he's pretty good! Tomorrow Ladysmith!

Day 44 Campbell River to Pender Harbor

04 September 2019 | Pender Harbor
Carole Miller | Sunny
The Strait of Georgia was so great that we decided to cross from Campbell River and go down the east side of the Strait. We have never been this way before so it was nice to do something different. It was a beautiful day with calm seas and little wind so I sat up top in the sun for awhile and fell asleep. Sonny saw a bottle floating that looked like it had a piece of paper in it so we turned around and netted it, it was our first message in a bottle. It said for a good time call Cody, we sure did get a good laugh out of it so we will put it back in the ocean for someone else to find. We are in Pender Harbor at John Henry's Marina and Resort, a cool little place in a beautiful setting. Tomorrow, well who knows!

Day 43 Kelsey Bay to Campbell River

04 September 2019 | Campbell River
Carole Miller | Sunny
The day started with fog but not as bad as it has been. We left Kelsey Bay and headed toward Deep Water Bay in Discovery Passage to wait until we could pass through Seymour Narrows. There is so much current in this part of Johnstone Strait and Discovery Passage. We had lunch, waited 2 hours, went through the narrows and on to Campbell River. They have the best grocery store, some nice pubs and restaurants and a strong First Nations presence. This is a much different town then it was the first time we came through here in 2006. Tomorrow we are going fishing and will stay at Rebecca Spit on Quadra Island.
