Kroko Atoll

Tom
We have just watched the sunset for the second time at Kroko atoll. After what seems like a two month marathon of boat problems and rushing to catch up with the rally, we finally stopped for a day and relaxed. The snorkeling here is good, the anchorage flat and calm and the surrounding volcanic backdrop stunning. There are numerous active volcanoes in all directions. I feel we have finally got back to tropical cruising. When I got up this morning just after five there was already a local fisherman waiting in a canoe to sell me some papayas. Although our fruit hammocks were full, I couldn't turn him down! Later this morning we snorkeled the reef for a second time and then did a little exploring in our dingy. This afternoon as we were wandering on a small sandy patch in the middle of the atoll we met some of the local teens. Locals use this as a "trip to the beach" and arrive in one of the fishing boats. We arrived in our dingy. They were incredibly friendly and were keen to have photos taken with us. They must have taken a hundred photos. We took a few as well and will try to get them up in our photo gallery when we have more consistent internet.
There is one other boat in the anchorage with us and surprisingly they are from the rally. Between here and Bali there are no organized events or stops so we will slowly make our way West. Our next major stop will be Komodo National Park where we will hunt the dreaded Komodo dragons. Tomorrow is a short trip to the Northern tip of Flores Island. But first an Indonesian stir fry for dinner and a good nights rest.
