Weary at Were

I've nicknamed Were Bay (pronounced whereh) 'Weary Bay' because of the relentless swell and rolly night we spent at anchor there. We had actually planned to give it a miss, having read that it can be affected by an East wind, and the charts reveal it as a mere indentation in an otherwise long straight coastline. Not a place to count on for a peaceful sleep. But we were eager to meet a fellow Rally particpant who hailed us on the radio on our passage from Gili Banta Island (the south anchorage at Gili Banta in contrast, was one of best anchorages we've been to so far!). The silver lining to spending a weary night a Were was having a front row seat at an active volcano. Erupting Pau Sangeang - a mere three miles away, was the perfect backdrop for sipping sundowners in the cockpit.
