Pink or Blue?
25 April 2016
What's your favorite color: pink or blue? Actually, it's a trick question because I'm referring to boat jobs. Tom's favorite color is blue. He'll pick a blue job over a pink one any day. I flip flop depending on what the job entails. For instance if a blue job involves installing a new holding tank, I'm happy to stick with a pink job! Anyone who lives afloat knows that there are a wide variety of jobs to do, but no formal job descriptions. And sometimes the lines between roles and responsibilities blur. What's great about it is that there are ample opportunities to receive 'on the job training' and in most cases new skills can be 'applied immediately'. Anyone who signs up has to be willing to job share and assume multiple roles. But the clincher is that you have to be willing to work overtime and pull double shifts without pay. Yep, work hard, play hard, that's our motto. The long hours, tenacity, and ingenuity pays off when you realize you've earned the opportunity to play in exotic places around the world for indefinite periods of time. We're holding on to that thought today as we continue working on our malfunctioning autopilot and installing a new water heater. We have to wait until after the long weekend to get help with a broken propane tank fitting. For now, have no running water (hot or cold), no ability to cook, and no steerage. But in the meantime we're tied up at the dock with Yacht Club facilities at our disposal
