Later that day we shared sundowners with friends in the cockpit after picking up a mooring ball in Stonehaven Bay, Hook Island. We all played a game of Cranium and ate Birthday cake (of the 'lopsided boat cake' variety... fortunately, cruisers aren't that critical - just part of the charm of cruising life).
The popularity of the Whitsundays is due in part to how easy the cruising is here. The close proximity of the Islands with their various inlets and bays, makes moving between anchorages when the weather shifts 'a breeze'. In fact the scenery is strikingly similar to the Gulf Islands in the Pacific Northwest, which is pretty fantastic! The difference: shallow bays, coral reefs and warm water. Yep. It's THAT good.
