moving down the keys
07 March 2013 | Rodriguez Key
Joannie/sunny and warm!
Yesterday after lunch we took the dinghy ashore and walked from the anchorage in Bill Baggs St Park north. As soon as you leave the state park you are in the upscale settlements of Key Biscayne. About a mile up the road we came to the Winn Dixie, purchased as much as we could carry in our 2 backpacks and then headed back to the boat.
As we were approaching our dinghy, the captain from another boat in the anchorage approached us and told us that a small powerboat had backed into our boat and dragged our anchor while we were gone. Fortunately there was minimal damage, a few “dings” on the starboard topside.
This morning we left Key Biscayne and motored south in Biscayne Bay – the body of water between the keys and the mainland. In the early afternoon we came to “Angelfish Creek” – a cut through Key Largo from Biscayne Bay to Hawks Channel. (Hawks Channel is the body of water on the outside of the keys.) We continued motoring until we came to Rodriguez Key, a small, uninhabited island off Key Largo, and dropped our anchor for the night.
Tomorrow we plan to go to Duck Key and check in to the marina at Hawks Cay resort. That will be our location for 6 weeks while we have visits from our girls and their families.
