Moving Along Through Indo

Picked up a mooring here at 1830 yesterday evening after passing through the reef entrance in low light. Never a relaxing exercise for yours truly but we had been in here before in 2011 when we were heading north to Thailand.

Lata to Marau Sound

18 March 2011
Lata to Marau Sound 8-11/11/2010
An overnight passage filled with alternating squalls and flat calm. One moment no wind the next driving rain and 25 knots. Dawn finds us in the pass between the Sister Islands and Malaita. We catch a 20 kilo Spanish Mackerel. It is a morning filled with squalls and low dark scud on the horizon. The wind dies as we clear the pass and enter the Slot. An adverse current makes Our destination of Marau a long shot by safe daylight hours for entering an unfamiliar pass. We change course for Makira. We anchor at 1410 off Selwyn Bay, Uki Ni Mas Island (10.15S / 161.43E) for the evening. It starts to rain, heavy at times. We set our awning and fill our tanks with rain water. A couple of friendly young men paddle out to visit us until the rain falls so hard that they head back for shore. In the morning we are in bed and see the head of a young girl pass below our port hole. We trade her for some star fruit and paw paw (papaya). We pull anchor and head to Marau by 1100.
We enter Marau through the northeast pass and anchor in Marapa Bay just around the corner from Tavanipupu Resort.
