Leaving Paris today
21 October 2011 | Marina
Blue skies, sunny.
Bonjour everyone.
I'm writing this without my glasses so apologies for bad typing.
There's wifi in the Marina but you have to go to the Capitainerie to use it (the office complex) as signal not strong enough to reach boat.
Just thought I'd tell you that we are leaving here today at 10am, through the little lock back Into the river Seine. Then basically we motor Eastwards to join the river Marne. Our overnight stop will be the town of Meaux. In a few days we should arrive in Epernay and will spend a couple of days there, hopefully sampling some champagne for which the region is famous.
Sorry I haven't put many photos on here, have taken hundreds, but I'm on the iPad mostly and can't add photos to anything, or else I don't know how to do it. Need to get the laptop going so can play with my pics. But it is SO SLOW compared to my lovely iPad.
I've just finished reading Hostage, which is the book written by Paul and Rachel Chandler who were kidnapped when Somali pirates attacked them on their yacht. It hasn't put me off sailing at all, as we have no intention of going where they did, but it was a really harrowing read and I can't believe they finally managed to leave their situation. I know for sure I would have cracked up far earlier if it were me. A great book, recommended.
Also have just read An Island In Greece by Michael Carroll, who went to Skiathos and Skopelos iby boat in the 1960s and ended up living there and building a house. I like reading about places I have been to.
Well, I hope Tim has come back with the baguettes by now, I just have to go and pay our bill, 26 euros a night which is ok for middle of Paris, cheaper than a hotel room!
More news soon, let me know how you are all doing? Does anyone ever read this?
G xx
