Wind and rain
22 May 2012 | Olbia, Sardinia
George, it's raining
We left the marina at Palau early on Sunday 20th May (approx 24.50 euros for one night, but we found if you are there during a six week high season in July and August it is TREBLE the price!). We were heading for Olbia but it got increasingly uncomfortable with wind on the nose and some high seas so we decided to find shelter for the rest of the day and overnight in a little bay called Porto di Cugnana. It was very quiet, no boats out anywhere. We dropped anchor in about 4 metres of water and put out at least 30 metres of chain but there was a lot of weed on the bottom and the anchor did not hold at first.
We had a nice quiet afternoon, cosy on board, watched a girlie video - Bridget Jones' Diary - for about the tenth time. I still think she would have been better off with Hugh Grant, but that's another story ....
It was very windy during the night, up to force 7-8 at sea but not too bad where we were anchored. The anchor didn't move at all - I kept the GPS track function on the IPad running all night and in the morning we were in virtually the same place!
The next morning we left 7.45am for Olbia. It was sunny and calm for most of the way, and had coffee and croissants in sunshine and thought how lucky we were not to be at work! On approaching Olbia it began to be a bit showery and I even had to bring the red waterproof jacket out of hibernation for a while. We found a place on the old quay where it is free to berth, but no electric or water, but that was fine. We had a walk round the town before a late lunch and everywhere seemed to be crowded with a peculiar species of humans that I will call the CSF.... or cruise ship folk. More news on this species later ....
