We set the alarm for midnight and were underway shortly afterwards headed for Isla Isabella where we had been enchanted by the amazing close up birdlife two years ago. This time we hoped we might also see the fuzzy white baby boobies. We knew it was just a hope though as for every successful visit ashore there are many aborted attempts to visit this Mexican Galapagos.
After an uneventful passage conditions were perfect to anchor in the main anchorage but as it was close to sunset we stayed on board to watch the anchor settle before nightfall. It was a good call as we were treated to an amazing whale display of tail flapping and water spouts less than half a mile away.
Soon after dark the anchorage became increasingly rocky and the wind moved round the headland. At one am we were awoken by the anchor alarm, the wind was now blowing us on to a lee shore and we had swung right round. Stuart was to spend a long night on deck at anchor watch.
