Hurricane Patricia
25 October 2015
Hi All,
Well Faraway has gone through her second hurricane in as many years.
I was up in Washington with family dealing with my brother's death and other matters when Patricia hit. Luckily Patricia did not hit Paradise Village hard. Winds were only up to 40 knots and the surge was only a few feet.
Paradise did indeed turn out to be a protected hurricane hole as advertised. I am flying back to Faraway tomorrow and will be continuing my sailing adventures.
Sailing Dragonfly
02 May 2015 | Portland, OR
Arrived in Portland, Oregon aboard Dragonfly on April 22nd. Had a cold, wet and sometimes rough passage from San Diego. It took about 22 days with a lot of time spent in marinas waiting for weather windows. As I told Lennie before the trip, it was for the most part, a motor/sail all the way up the coast, ducking into harbors and waiting out bad weather. Lennie, the owner of Dragonfly put together a great crew of friends, all of which had a great time despite the lack of good sailing weather, lack of sleep and the long slog up the coast.
Dragonfly proved to be a very capable offshore boat and held up very well. This will probably be the worst passage Lennie will ever make aboard her. In a few years Lennie, Carol and Cutter plan on making the left turn aboard Dragonfly to follow the sun. I wish them fair winds and following seas.
Back In Paradise.
20 March 2015 | Nuevo Vallarta
Did an overnight passage from Barra de Navidad Back to Paradise Village. I will be spending the summer and fall here in Paradise.
Changes in Lattitude
13 March 2015 | Barra de Navidad
Sunny, Wind building, Storm coming...
Things have changed. There is a nice little storm brewing just to the south, right where I planned to be tomorrow. Therefore I did not leave Barra today as planned. Also, Lennie Hawkins wants me to be the delivery skipper of his new (used) boat he recently purchased. So Instead of sailing to El Salvador this season, I have decided to spend the summer either here in Barra de Navidad or Paradise Village.
On the 27th of this month I am flying up from Puerta Vallarta to San Diego to help Lennie sail his new boat from San Diego, CA to Portland, OR. Should be a fun and interesting trip and I will get to visit with Cori and Skyler as well as drive over to see mom and the rest of the family before heading back to "FarAway".
Lennie used to own a Pearson 367 named "Sol". Lennie did a beautiful job bringing Sol back to life and then recently sold her to purchase his new boat "Dragonfly". Dragonfly is a Jeanneau 43 Deck Salon and she seems to be a very fine boat. I'm looking forward to sailing on her.
Heading South

Lou - Sunny & Warm
Sailed from La Cruz to Tenacatita, Anchored in Tenacatita for two days. Took the dingy up the mangrove estuary for a day trip. Nixie had a great time barking at all the birds and later we played in the surf. Nixie needed a bath after getting soaked with salt water and rolling in the sand. Especially when she found a pile of horse manure.
Left Tenacatita and sailed on to Barra de Navidad. Currently docked at the Grand Isla Navidad Resort Marina. Hit the pool with a swim up bar. There's not much quite as good as having a margarita in paradise!
Will be leaving Isla Navidad Resort on Friday bound for Ixtapa. Will post photos later.
La Cruz

Beautiful
Just a quick update. Sailed back from La Paz to Mazatlan and once again to Isla Isabela and then down to La Cruz. Have been anchored in La Cruz for a few days and getting ready to depart for southern Mexico.
