Historic Charlotte Amalie

During our walk around the town we looked at several of the old building of interest. We walked up the 99 steps which is one of several step streets built by the Danes to solve the problem of getting around the towns hilly terrain. The bricks were brought from Denmark as ballasts in the holds of trade ships and are a yellow colour. The 99 steps which is actually 103 steps leads to the base of Blackbeard's tower, which was a Danish watch tower built in the late 1600s.The view from the tower offers a perfect vantage point to spot enemy ships entering the harbour.
We spent about a week here in the anchorage enjoying the walks around town and down to the French quarter.
