Zihuahuahua!

Well, it’s been two and a half fantastic months in Zihuatanejo, but it’s time to move on! Time has flown by here for Austen and I while Tim was back working in Victoria, must be all the cervezas. Cold, tasty beer is a must when it’s 30 degrees everyday… And when they’re the equivalent of about $1.50, you can’t go wrong!
We’ve had some help exploring Zihuatanejo with visits from both our moms which helped make the time fly by. This is truly a beautiful spot, we can see why people continue to visit year after year, and we would be happy to come back in the future. For the time being, however, there are many places for us to visit before we return to Victoria in September so it is time to move on! So, in no particular order, here are some of the highlights for Austen and myself during our time boat-sitting in Zihuatanejo:
• the beautiful, tropical weather – sunny and 30 degrees almost every day
• the beautiful, tropical water – even if it does mean the bottom of the boat looks like a barnacle forest
• snorkeling at Isla Grande and Playa Las Gatas
• the friendly dolphin who joined us on our paddling adventures
• underwater Jesus made out of recycled keys
• all the sweet cats and dogs that became our friends
• walking dogs for the humane society
• renting a Hobie Cat and flying across the bay
• horseback riding on Playa Larga
• visiting an archaeological site to see a pyramid being uncovered
• watching the pelicans dive for their meal
• the delicious, giant margaritas at Casa Elvira
• searching for crocodiles down the river from the marina in the middle of the night…fueled by cervezas
• Austen catching some waves at Las Gatas
• befriending the locals and the local gringos
• watching the pangas beach themselves at full speed
• listening to the great local bands at Barracruda Bar
• enjoying the tastiest, creamiest avocados ever
• watching the servers prepare a real Mexican coffee, with Kahlua, tequila, and fire
It has been great fun here in Zihuatanejo, but we are excited to head further south. Tim came back with all the essentials for the next part of the voyage: new radar scanner, watermaker hose, satellite phone, fans for the bunks, and maple syrup. Now we just need to install everything, stock up on as much food as we can fit in the lockers, and weigh anchor!
