The NEWLY WEDS!
The ROAD TRIP
We went on a big land trip in late August. On the way to a wedding, we stopped in my hometown, Marion, OH. How things have changed! We had a fun dinner with my sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Vaughn at his sister's house...lots of laughs and stories.
We then went to a great wedding event in Michigan. It was Mike and Kathie's (Sapphire) daughter's (Sam) wedding. OK, so you think a wedding is an event that covers an afternoon...a few hours or so. Not this time. It was a multi-day event filled with food, drink, family, festivities, and tons of fun. To recount the weekend could easily fill pages of stories. It was an unforgettable few days and Kim and I feel lucky to have been included. The newlyweds were a gorgeous couple and planned a unique event in a great setting.
We actually wore shoes and socks...guess who
Even ties!
Getting fixed up...
We then spent an evening in Ohio with my niece, Laura and her husband, John and son, Max. We hadn't had the opportunity to meet Max before and found out what we had been missing. He's a neat kid that has real potential to be a stand-up comedian someday. We really enjoyed their hospitality and realize that we need to connect more often. I see sailing in Max's future...
And now - Max!
After Michigan and Ohio, Annapolis was our destination...the land of fun, food, and drink. We caught up with some old time friends, Skip and Gerri Smith and John and Mary Anne McLaughlin for old times.
It was a week end full of "activities". We stayed with Scott and Amy...GREAT hosts along with being my favorite son and daughter-in-law (ok, so they're the only ones I have...but I'm sure if I had more they would still be my favorites).
Scott had a new way to grow tomato plants...
A science experiment
Tomatoes everywhere
We had a fun lunch with Bill and Christy (Veranda) at the Annapolis YC. We look forward to spending time with them in a few weeks in the Bahamas. We both stayed back last year and are anticipating the upcoming wallows. We'll cover wallows and other Bahamas activities future reports.
Scott was sailing in a regatta in the J70 class. They won their class and I just saw where they came in 4th in the North Americans last weekend. There were 89 boats in that regatta! Bill, Christy, Kim, Amy and I went out in Scott and Amy's boat to watch the races. Sailboat racing is usually only exciting to a sailor, but it was fun.
The next day was brunch at Jeff and Sandy's (Safari). Again, old friends, and Jeff just retired so we had to share some of our thoughts on that.
The whole weekend contained too much food, drink, and fun. We had to come back to sleepy Oriental to rest up. We realized how old we're getting.
Kim left a couple of days later for a trip to Colorado to visit her son, Jake. She spent about two weeks out there and ended up in the middle of the floods in Boulder County. The good news is that none of her family had problems with their homes, but getting around the area was a big problem. She was barely able to get to the airport for her flight out.
So now we are starting the serious prep process for heading south in a few weeks. More on that later...
