Last night's dinner
Hanging around Staniel Cay can be lots of fun. There's the Yacht Club, which is really a bar/restaurant with a bunch of docks and cottages. It's quite an operation, and seems to be busy all the time. They offer Wi-Fi, too.
My birthday breakfast...bagel, cream cheese, lox, capers, and onions!
There's a grocery store on the island that gets fresh food on Wednesdays when the Mail Boat (the Captain C) shows up. The anchorage at Big Majors is where the swimming pigs live. There are a couple other beaches for evening cocktails. This is also where many of the Mega-Yachts bring their charters. That makes the anchorage extra busy with jet skis and other water toys.
A couple of days before Thanksgiving, the VHF (radio) was active with the rescue efforts on a Haitian sailing boat that had capsized. Evidently there were over 100 people on board a boat smaller than the Fine Lion. Bill on Veranda has a very good post about the whole ordeal. Check it out with the link on the left of this page.
We've been having a lot of rain for the past week. Not stormy, but rain cells passing through a couple of times a day. That means we've been a little "boat-bound".
The dinghy was full of water...I told Kim to use it as a bath tub
So, on 12/1 we decided to go on our first hunt of the season. We out to the Sandy Cay area and recorded our first take of the season...two lobsters with one of them being pretty big. Needless to say, we enjoyed our first lobster dinner last night. It was "almost" too much for us, but we listened to the Panthers and the Broncos win while having lobster and salad.
First "take of the season"
We think we'll go to Black Point today or tomorrow to do laundry at Ida's. She runs the finest Laundromat you've ever seen...maybe get some fresh baked bread from Lorraine's mother.
It looks like we'll have good winds to sail south to the Jumentos and Ragged Islands in a couple of days. We'll take that window to sail there rather than use the engine to save on diesel fuel.
We'll keep you posted...
