Boat Projects...

The duct work is artistry...right?

There are always projects on a boat. Some more important than others, but the project list is never empty.

We defrosted the freezer and I thought it seemed to be taking up too much power. When I looked at the compressor, it seemed to be running hot...and too often. Looking more closely, I could see the cooling fan was not operating...problem alert.

I discussed this at a beach cocktail party...which is where everything of importance is discussed, evaluated, and decided upon. Bill of Veranda is a true professional when it comes to boat mechanics. He volunteered to come over and "take a look". So when the ladies went for a snorkel, Bill came over.

It was determined that, in fact, the fan had failed. This was done by removing the fan and checking it via an independent power source. OK, I don't have a spare, but I do have a new cabin fan spare. The cabin fan was installed external to the compressor and it works great. The unit is running cooler, and should be more efficient, which means less power consumption.

In the pictures, the fan installation was done by Bill. The "duct work" was done by me...pretty cool huh? The spare fan was way deep in the forward cabin. I had to dig deep to get to it...not an easy job.

Now where is that damn fan!

It's amazing what we go through to be in paradise.
