Night of Lights, St Augustine
21 November 2015 | St Augustine
Sunny then Cloudy, heavy rain in the early PM, winds N at 15
We have an easy cruise today from Jacksonville to St Augustine, about 30 miles. We got up at 5:30. Kathi did yoga, we did laundry took a walk and worked out at the marina Gym all before 09:00. Did a couple of work calls also. We got under way about 09:30. It's a beautiful day, sunny and warm for a change. It was a very strait canal along the ICW, full of very large homes on the water front. Some of the docks were over the top with covered decks, jet skis, grilling stations, tiki bars and Jacuzzi's. It would be impossible to get a permit to build such nice docks in Maryland, no 100 foot critical zone to the water here in FL..... We arrived just after lunch time in St Augustine. The inlet looked rough. As we came into the harbor the sailing vessel Freedom passed us, see photo It's a schooner. We got settled in at rivers edge marina after getting through the bridge connecting St Augustine with Anastasia Is. Lucky us it was night of lights in St Augustine as they lite up the town with. Millions of lights for Christmas. There was caroling and all the stores were open. In the afternoon a storm came through and a very heavy rain, we were lucky to be by a restaurant to take refuge, it only lasted about an hour. We were surprised on how many Cats (catamarans) were on the moorings as well as the docks. We tied up next to a 78 foot cat named Cats Meow, it was enormous and very beautiful. St Augustine was celebrating its 450th birthday. It is a beautiful place.
