Sebastian Inlet

25 November 2015 | Sebastian , FL
Partly Cloudy, Winds 28K E, 78F
Up and at me early. Left the dock at 07:00. The winds picked up early and stayed above 20 knots all day. I measured 27K from the east for about an hour steady. We worked the job as best as we could but we were close hauled most of the day. The merit Island bridge was only able to open one side so we only had about 35 foot clearance to get by, we made it with no problems. The tides we very high with the east winds, so a lot of the bridges were reading only 64 foot clearance, so our VHF antenna scraped along the bridges. We arrived at our destination Marina about 2:30 and I kept thinking we would get there between 3-4. The Sebastian River Marina had a very narrow channel and shallow on the way in. With the high winds, following sea and alarms going off because of shallow water it was quite challenging. As soon as we entered the basin we had to turn left and then do a 180 in tight quarters to make a starboard tie against the Marina dock wall. Kathi was excellent in getting the lines to the dock hands and we only slightly bumped once against the dock pile. We tied up broadside to the wind so we have lines every which way to hold the boat in place. We plan to stay here 2 nights and celebrate Thanksgiving tomorrow with our mini Turkey. I am hoping the wind subside by Friday. Happy Thanksgiving everyone......
