Arriving at the Canary islands

View of the marina in Lanzarote. More serious ocean going yachts than we have seen for a long time!!
The night of day three was a tough one. The winds varied from next to nothing to above 20 knots all within minutes and the direction changed continually and we copped rain. Add to this a very confused sea and you will understand why there was not much sleep for anyone that night. We were in a convergence zone between weather systems and just had to make the best of it. The following day we had more consistent winds allowing us to have some good sailing under spinnaker topping speeds into the low teens. We started to make good progress towards the Canary islands.
Simon had booked a flight home from Lanzarote on Saturday morning so we had no time to spare. The next day we caught sight of the most northern of the Canary islands mid morning and arrived in Lanzarote marina at 1600 with enough time to clean up, have the traditional end of passage champagne and a restaurant meal.
The passage was about 720nm and we completed it in 4 days.
Early Saturday morning Simon departed for home in Mallorca and then to watch Hugo Boss start in the Vendee Globe around the world race on the 6th Nov.
I will remain in Lanzarote to tackle more jobs on the boat. Fortunately we had no equipment failures on the passage from Gibraltar and everything had a good workout but there are some improvements to be made to address some weaknesses and areas vulnerable to wear. More on Lanzarote next post after I have a look around.
