Day 4
27 March 2017 | Enroute to Galapagos
Bernie
After a rollicking last 24 hours where we clocked 200nm, the wind has almost deserted us...we are in the doldrums after all. We are still sailing with the kite up but the remaining sea state is upsetting the sails with light winds under 10 kn. We have 143nm to go to the Galapagos island of San Cristobal and an equator crossing in between. Expecting to arrive there mid to late afternoon tomorrow. Apart from sailing the boat today we have been busy in the office preparing documents for the authorities. We expect to be boarded by up to eight officials, the usual Customs and Immigration, then others who will be checking our waste holding tank, the bottom of the boat for barnacles and others again who will sit down with us and do a risk assessment....all sounds like fun. In anticipation of this I have been preparing documents certifying the the boat was cleaned and painted in the last port, photographs attached to prove it and also other statements regarding the holding tank. All documents signed by captain Bernard and duly stamped with the ships stamp, the more official looking the better! Our little ships printer has been working overtime.
Damien is showing the first signs of nervousness re the equator crossing and the nature of the King Neptune appeasement process.
