Arrived Galapagos

29 March 2017 | San Cristobal Galapagos
Bernie
The equator crossing happened at 0100 in the morning. We decided to take a photo of the GPS display with the latitude displaying all zeros. This proved to be a bit of a challenge with a slight current and the slow shutter speed of the camera making it difficult to capture the exact moment when all digits were zero. The hour of the night probably didnt help either. On the third attempt we got it, the evidence!

It was then onto Damiens equator crossing initiation. I had some left over doggy doo looking bergoo, perfect for the process. Damien had a choice of having the goop poured over his head or eating it, a choice rarely granted to a recipient. He chose to eat the stuff, the moment once again captured by a photo and he retired to his bunk.

We motored all night and into the next day. The sea was glassy with a lazy swell. Early afternoon we sighted the first signs of San Cristobal island in the distance. We took the opportunity to give the boat a thorough washdown and clean up in preparation for our arrival and visit from the authorities. We arrived in the san Cristobal anchorage at 1745 local time and dropped anchor among about 25 other yachts. The officials did not visit us so we were able to relax, have a beer and get an early night. There are sea lions everywhere, they swim around the yachts and you can hear them barking all the time. We will inspect the bottom of the boat today and expect to have some company, hope they dont bite, should be a good photo opportunity.
