Bern and Roger sail to Thailand

Phi Phi Don island where we anchored for a night

I flew back to the boat at Langkawi directly from India.

I was on a mission to sail the boat up to Thailand in order to be loaded on a ship bound for the Med in early March. After a lot of research into shipping options and struggling with the decision to ship the boat to the Med, or not, we finally 'bit the bullet' and settled on a shipping company and paid the substantial amount up front to secure a position on the ship.

Joining me on the sail from Langkawi to Phuket in Thailand was Roger a sailing friend for many years. He joined me as we both transited through KL on our way to the boat at Langkawi. We had a busy next day driving around Langkawi, arranging clearance out of Malaysia for ourselves and for the boat, buying provisions for the trip and things such as charts and courtesy flags for the Med.

Due to very little wind we virtually motored the whole 120nm to Phuket with two overnight stops along the way. Following our arrival in Phuket we cleared in and met with the agent who was to arrange all the shipping documents required to ship the boat. All went well and we were able to spend some time on a motor scooter exploring the island of Phuket and preparing the yacht for shipment. Roger returned back to Australia after all the preparation was done. I was very grateful for his help.
