First Light III to the rescue

Towing stricken yacht
Yesterday we finally left the marina in Marmaris following First Light's winter sojourn there for the past five months. Bern returned late March to antifoul and relaunch the boat, plus complete a few jobs before the start of the sailing season . Di returned mid April and after renewing our Turkish visas we were able to head east.
Our first night out was to be spent in the Gocek area. Late afternoon we spotted a red flare being fired from a yacht with it's mainsail up that seemed too close to the coast for comfort. We dropped sails and motored over to help out. It became apparent as we got closer that the distressed boat a Bavaria 42 had engine troubles and with virtually no sail up, it was just drifting closer to the rocks. After a brief explanation from the distressed skipper we took them under tow. Along the way the skipper contacted us by radio and asked if we could tow him to a small sheltered bay with a marina and taverna. It was about 8 miles away and we agreed. We towed him safely to the bay where he was assisted to a berth by marina staff. We decided to spend the night there and eat at the taverna. Some hours after arriving, the skipper eventually came and thanked us for rescuing and towing his boat. He presented us with two beers!!!! His meagre thanks left us feeling somewhat used and questioning how we would deal with a similar situation in future.
