A Small World!

Pethi village
We arrive in Pethi on Simi Island just before midnight following our 100nm passage from Kekova Road with little wind and sloppy seas. Arriving at an unknown anchorage in the dark can be a little stressful, but there was a slither of moon which enabled us to visually cross check the accuracy of our electronic charts as we entered the bay. However, it is amazing what your eyes can pick up once they adjust to the darkness. To our relief the skipper of another yacht moored in the harbour guides us in by calling out some helpful instructions. Surprisingly he is an Aussie and quickly picks up on our Australian accents. So we anchor without too much drama and bed down for a peaceful nights sleep after a long day. Next morning we wake to sunshine and our surroundings which is a quaint little Greek fishing village backed by huge mountains. Over the hill is Simi town the main port of the island. We catch a bus ride over and stock up on pork fillets, bacon, jam and wine before crossing back over into Turkey 12 nm away. We meet up with the Australian who helped us into the harbour the night before. Turns out he was born and bred in Yallourn, the town where Bern grew up and knew of Bern's mum Prue, because of her community involvement. Such a small world!
