A short stopover!

09 August 2009 | Mele Bay-Pt Vila-Havannah Harbour
Di & Bernie
Have spent the past few days in Pt Vila provisioning and waiting for Claire who has now arrived and is settled on board. We spent a night in Mele bay before coming into Vila and enjoyed a quiet evening there which is a resort destination for many tourists. It has been quite wet for the past few days so had to make full use of the local laundrette. Our friends Paul & Frances off 'Seaspray' are tied up to the seawall with us as well. Bern & I have been fortunate to enjoy the benefits of Frances' professional hairdressing skills and are now both looking a little tidier. Last night Paul took us all along to a Kava Bar to experience this drink the locals seem to get so excited about! It was quite a dingy little thatched hut and fortunately we had taken along our own mugs as the hygiene standards of these places are a little questionable. Kava is quite bitter in taste and must be drunk quickly, then followed by a water mouthwash, to rinse the taste out. So there are lots of spitting noises going on around the place as all the clientale gets rid of their mouthwashes! Not very conducive surroundings for a quiet evening drink! The after affects are supposed to be a numbness of tongue and sometimes limbs and a general relaxed feeling. However, as we only had a small drink didn't seem to experience any altered state at all. Today we say 'good-bye' to Pt Vila and head round to Havannah Harbour which will be our jumping off point to head north. It will also allow Claire to get her 'sea legs' going!
