Oh the difference a day can make...
18 December 2010 | Nargana, San Blas, Panama
Ralph
We traveled the 22 miles from Snug Harbor to Nargana, but actually sailed 35 miles to get there. We put the main up at anchor and once we got out to the rumb line, the wind was 12 kts directly on the nose. We could have motored directly into it for the whole way, but we decided to tack back and forth and actually sail. Because we were in a channel between the mainland and off shore reefs we had to tack a LOT. Some squalls passed through and it started raining at times. And when we were on a starboard tack, we were pounding directly into the swell. It was not fun. We should have sailed farther the day before as the wind angle was perfect, but hind sight is everything.
Nargana is a very different town than the other villages and basic supplies are readily available. We met up with Billy from Ann Vera Lynne, whom we met in Cartagena, and he showed us around town. It is still pretty basic here. We had not eaten all day due to the rough and busy trip, so we went to find a restaurant and even thought they had many things on their menu, all they had was pollo and arroz. (chicken and rice) You see TV antennas poking out all over the place and there are lights on in the town after dark. The school where the internet is located was closed yesterday, but hopefully it will be open today. School is out so hopefully we will still get a chance to use it.
I am not sure how long we will stay here. I guess it depends on internet access and whether we find out if the road to Carti is open.
