Haulout Day 2

This morning was devoted to grinding out areas in the keel area mostly in preparation for repairing them with epoxy. There were a couple of hull blisters that also has to be done. While did that and filled the areas with epoxy Pam focused on the dirty job of sanding all the old paint off the prop and shaft. The afternoon was pretty much devoted to hunting defective spots in the bottom paint. You see, our bottom paint is too thick in some areas and when that happens the paint cracks and if poked comes loose of the bottom. Kind of like peeling paint on your house. We really should have the bottom paint completely stripped off and start all over agin, but just don't haven't had the money to do that major job. So we have resorted to removing loose paint, sanding and priming the bad areas as they occur. When sanding we try to fair it as much as possible but the finish does end up a bit uneven. But we aren't a racing boat so it hasn't been a problem performance wise. The sanding is a dirty job with all the paint dust. Which necessitates wearing full coveralls, balaclava, gloves, a respirator and safety glasses. Normally the chipping, scraping and sading has taken us one day so enduring doing this manual labor in ninety degree heatmhas not been too bad. And since we both work at it, it goes faster.
