Stay the Course or Not

I'm not sure when it started, if it was the tough physical nature of the haulout, the Christmas music playing in most of the stores or perhaps it was a combination of everything. We are experiencing some doubt in whether we want to continue this life style. The haulout was a bit more of a test of our resolve than the haulout experience we were use to in Florida. There we were not allowed to live on the boat while it was out of the water so we roughed it at the local Super 8. Here it was more difficult but not something that we haven't done before, just haven't done since 2001 here in Grenada. The Christmas music, although it still seems strange hearing "White Christmas" in the tropics, has sparked some nostalgic rememberances of Christmas back in the States. Another factor that may have contributed to the waffling is the fact that we are in the same geographical location as we were ten years ago when we decided to return to the States aboring our cruising. Also at that time we had the same plans as we do this time and that is to leave here and sail directly to the US Virgin Islands. At this point we have not decided to stop cruising but early next year we will re-evaluate this lifestyle when we will take a look at what our costs have been. At that time I hope to summarize our findings in a blog entry. Of course part of our problem right now could also be that we haven't been sailing since we arrived in Grenada back in August. We enjoy sailing and I think we had hoped that we would have done more of it this year. But that is our own fault as we got wrapped up in shore activities, repairs and friends, suffice it to say that we got comfortable. Stay tuned for future blog posts to see which course we choose.
