Jeff
We left Caneel Bay on 2/19/12 and motored around the north side of St. John about five miles to Leinster Bay where we picked up a mooring. Leinster Bay is one of our favorites from as far back as the 1980s when we first visited the Caribbean on a bare boat charter. We remember the snorkleing here was quite good so we jumped in, well eased into the cold to us 80 deg. F water, and went for another visit to Waterlemon Cay's reef. Pam got some decent underwater pictures of fish and especially starfish. Hopefully she will be sending out some samples in one of her emails soon. The next day our friends Dave and Colleen, from SV Promise, invited us on a hike over to Coral Bay on the south side of St. John. To do this we hiked up over the mountain, around 400 feet high, to get to Coral Harbor, on Coral Bay where we had lunch at the Donkey Diner. Then we hiked back to Leinster Bay via a different trail. All tolled Dave said it worked out to almost six miles distance. It was a great workout for Pam and I as we haven't done a lot of hiking in the last couple of months. We got some great shots with Pam's camera, she got it for her birthday, so hopefully she will share some of those in an upcoming email. We are also looking into sharing photos via this blog. As soon as we make a decision on how to do it and have enough electrical power to do it we will announce it here. If all goes well today we will move around to Round Bay which is one of the bays within Coral Bay On the southeast side of St. John.
