The crew of Follow You Follow Me left Redwood City on a furious Thursday night, with winds blowing to 35 knots *in* redwood Creek. We decided to anchor out in the creek rather than brave the flood tide and winds on the nose to San Francisco. Check out the chop in the "no wake zone" at the Sequoia Yacht Club!

Creating some space
Allan

You hear it over and over... There is never enough space on a boat. We are constantly amazed at the creative ways cruisers make space for stuff on their boats. On Follow you, Hunter saw fit to not provide any decent place for full size books. While there is a bookshelf in the forepeak above our bunk, it doesn't easily deal with full size books like Chart #1, Nigel Calders World Cruising Routes and boat documentation.

In a spurt of creative energy one night this week, I decided to reconfigure the shelves underneath the navstation desk to accept full size binders and books. Unfortunately I didnt take a before picture but it basically was 3 compartments, only one of which would accept full size books and it was only 5 inches wide. I got out the trusty jigsaw and cut out the dividers, creating one big shelf and re-purposed the shelf fiddle to keep the books in place in heavy seas.

Now my trusty manuals are close at hand...

Ahhh! The Sun's Out!

04/28/2008, San Francisco Bay

After a long winter of boat projects and mundane distractions, Rina and I finally get some quality time in the central bay during Opening Day on the Bay. Spent the night at aquatic park at the foot of Ghirardelli Square, great weather, and dinner with Steve and Sherri, who got a ride in the dink from the beach to the boat.

Great sailing out to mile rock and then down hill all the way to the waterfront where we watched the parade of boats from Crissy Field to Pier 39. Lunch in McCovey cove watching the giants crowd and the parade of boats in and out of the cove. We then turned towards home, with a brisk sail to RWC, including some 10.5 knot bursts due to the 30 knot gusts coming off San Bruno mountain. By the time we passed the San Mateo bridge, we were running wing on wing in 22 knots of breeze... a great way to start the season
