Continuing South
19 December 2013
Continued south on the ICW through dozens of opening bridges. Stopped a couple of nights in Ft. Lauderdale and saw the amazing boat Parade of Lights. Huge mega yachts covered in lights, some with live music and dancers. We joined a raft up of dinghies with other cruisers in the anchorage and had a ring side seat. I posted a few pix in the gallery - please consider they were taken in a bouncy dingy.
We made a stop at Sunset Lake in Miami South Beach. We were able to get ashore and do some grocery shopping. Walked to a pedestrian mall (like Boulder Mall only larger) with lots of upscale stores and many open air restaurants. We made it to the beach - long walk. The weather is sunny and warm.
With this leg of the trip we have now gone under every opening bridge on the ICW over our 3 trips.
We have finally made it to our jumping off point: No Name Harbor on Key Biscayne. The anchorage is within a Florida state park and is quiet during the week and a bit raucous with local boats partying on the weekend. There is a nice beach here and a lighthouse that you can climb 99 stairs to the top. Also a good Cuban restaurant where we had breakfast this morning.
We think we may have our window to Bimini on Monday. Stay tuned.
