I woke up every three hours last night even though I no longer had to get up for my watch. It still felt good to be sleeping without holding on. Rachel and I headed up to the Lavadero (no longer Lavenderia as in Chile) with 7 loads of wash. Ned stayed aboard to continue cleaning. After finding the laundry we headed downtown for the famous coffee and pastries here. Found a great spot and enjoyed a moment of people watching in this very cosmopolitan city. We figured out the buses, checked out some restaurants, got a map, and will continue tomorrow. Mar de Plata is a seaside resort with beautiful beaches and very tall apartments along the waterfront. It is a middle class retreat for those who live in Buenos Aires, about 5 hours away. In the summer it is wall to wall people on the beaches, lots of tennis, sailing, and sun tanning. Right now it is the end of summer so it is lively but not so crowded as a month ago. The Argentinians seem much more European than those in Chile. Once again, the new Spanish dialect is difficult and since this area is frequented mostly by locals not much English is spoken. The yacht club is great, first week for free, but the odor of the sea loins on the breakwater is beyond pungent. Hope the wind direction changes soon.
