Happy Birthday Ned and Happy Valentine’s Day to all

We arrived in Ushuaia, Argentina, the southernmost city in the world in time to celebrate Ned’s birthday on the 14th. Two hitchhikers joined us on the 30 mile trip back to the west, one local Argentinean and one French girl. Yes, before you leave this part of the world and head up the east coast of South America you are required to check out of Chile and into Argentina, the next country you will visit. The way the borders and the politics work this requires one to backtrack, always upwind and adding an additional 60 miles to the 1500 mile trip up the coast. There is a friendly yacht club here and we tied to the big long dock and checked in with Oscar, as well as the authorities. Since our new passengers were on our crew list, they had to go through the formalities with us which was great as they both were fluent in Spanish and the local knew his way around town. We were here last year on our way to and from Antarctica so the place was pretty familiar. La Estancia was the recommended restaurant for authentic Argentinean “Meat”, especially lamb. We had a gay time with Ned joking all the way with our waiter.
