Very stressful final preparations
The engine was removed very efficiently and with great respect for the boat. It was taken to Zlatco's workshop for further investigation! Back Home at Short Notice
Leuca sits on the southernmost tip of the Salento peninsula, right on the heel of Italy (on the border of the Adriatic and Ionian Seas). Its a popular seaside resort full of very ornate large villas and crowned by a large religious sanctuary and lighthouse on a hill that overlooks the harbour. The route to the sanctuary is up 300 steps built by Mussolini as the gateway to Italy, that run alongside a large artificial waterfall.
Our first impressions of Leuca, were positive even if our first night was a little uncomfortable as a big swell worked its way onto our berth. We were planning to climb the steps but our explorations were cut short by a 3.00am call from home due a serious family illness and we had to rush back. The crisis is over but we will need to be here for a while.
Paul will probably return to Leuca in a few weeks to move the boat to a longer term berth, either there or most likely in Greece.
We didn't get to take any photos of Leuca, so you get a bonus picture of a dolphin swimming alongside Freya's bow from a few weeks ago.
