Bahia Santiago

We left Barra at 10:30 am on Thursday, 1/20 and arrived at Bahia Santiago at 3:15 pm and anchored off of Playa La Boquita beach. On the way, we felt a vibration and Eric discovered that the bracket for the secondary alternator was now broken so he removed the belt. He had already disconnected this alternator on January 10th because it was not charging so he is getting very frustrated. However, I'm wondering when he is going to re-contact the company he bought this super duper alternator system from to let them know about these new issues.

On Friday, we took our dinghy, along with Roger and Di in their kayaks, to explore the site of the 300-foot sunken cargo ship, San Luciano. It sustained damage in a category 5 hurricane in 1959 and sunk directly off the beach and sits in 25 feet of water. That evening we took our dinghies ashore for 2 for 1 happy hour margaritas and Tom and Cary (Dragon's Toy) joined us just as happy hour was ending. We ended up having dinner upstairs and stayed for dancing with the Elvis impersonator DJ.

On Saturday, we took the dinghy onto the beach and then walked up and through a lovely gated community of homes to the bus stop. We took the bus into the town of Santiago and walked around the flea market, which takes place every Saturday and is huge. We bought beautiful produce for cheap. We, along with Roger and Di, met up with fellow cruisers Walt and Patsy Simmons (Wind Rose) and Jan and Vivian Meerman (Capriccio) at a great restaurant for lunch.

Eric used Roger's hooka to dive and clean the bottom of the boat but only got about half done. He scraped barnacles and said it looked like a forest under there.
