Back in the water

Sorry for not posting for such a long time...excuse...I was so busy working on the boat and not cruising, I thought it would not be as interesting. I'm sure some of you would enjoy my trial and tribulations, so I suppose I should've have posted a couple info updates. I got so relaxed working on the boat, I almost thought this was part of this seasons cruising. In my previous life I would get all stressed with the amount of work I had to do. But for some reason (maybe the manana attitude) I took my time and enjoyed each and every day. There were some setbacks, and then there were great days of accomplishment. When the time came to drop the the boat in the water, I was a little reluctant to accept it. I've spent almost 2 months climbing up the ladder to my land based condo and was getting quite used to it. Anyway, my first night on the water was a dream....nice little movement of boat rocking gently and the boat sitting level, versus the bow lower than the stern as it was on the hard. The anxiety level about all the systems working properly was through the roof. As I got on board and checked for leaks and found none and then started the engine, it was working as should be. Transmission went into gear and the boat moved into reverse and out of the haulout slip. Then I put it into forward and scooted out into the bay doing over six knots. My new folding prop works better than I thought it would. Right now I'm cleaning out the interior of the boat so I can start putting the stuff I had in the storage bodega back on the boat. The boat is sitting so high out of the water right now, I might take it out for a quick sail to see how it performs before loading on weight. I will not put everything back on the boat so as to keep it a little lighter than before. We had a nice Thanksgiving here at Marina Singlar. Of course I had to carve the turkeys and I even got an extra 15 pound turkey and cooked it in my boat oven just in case there wasn't enough at the potluck. Turns out that there was enough, so I had the pleasure of eating a lot of turkey sandwiches. I don't know where I will be for Christmas, because I won't leave here for another week. Now that I have 3G computer hookup, I will try to add a post while underway to Mazatlan. Happy Birthday Jesus.

Viva la Yanmar! Congrats on a successful engine installation; not an easy job. Now, just take a solemn oath that you'll put back on the boat ONLY what you absolutely NEED!:)

So glad you are finally back in the water and everything is working properly. I know how allergic you are to land (and most land dwellers). Reading your post, I can almost hear the excitement in your voice being back in the water. Best of luck as you officially begin another season of sailing. Hope you can make it to Barra in time for Christmas -- I know how much you've enjoyed it in the past. Wherever you end up, I'm sure you'll make the best of it. Be safe, G-Pa! Your Princess loves and misses you, and we do, too! Love, -K
Viva la Revolucion

Today, Monday, I had the pleasure of watching a huge parade in Guaymas with all the residents from the southern portion of the state of Sonora. At least it seemed that way with the crowds. It's Revolution Day and their pride sure shows by how they turned out for this. It started with the Navy and then every secondary and prep school was involved. I looked at how some schools let their young girls dress for the event and all I can say is that it's The Culture. I want to say more but will bite my tongue...... After the parade I went over to the downtown Mercado and bought a cup of soft ice cream, then went over to this taco stand inside the mercado and bought a large root beer and made a root beer float. Root beer is almost unheard of in Mexico and you should see the looks I got from the locals as I proceeding to mix the two together. It sure hit the spot and wrapped a day of just goofing off. Gabriella would be proud of me.

Hi, G-Pa! You're awesome dude! You should open your own root beer float stand. I had a strawberry-lemonade stand the other day and made lots of money!
I'm going to Oregon tomorrow, so I will call you tonight. We're coming home on Saturday night. I love you, G-Pa!! You're the best grandpa ever for creating the first root beer float in Mexico!!!! Happy root beer float day!!!!!!! I love you! -Gabriella
Engine progress

Somedays there seems to be lots of progress and then other days it seems as though I will spend the entire cruising season in Guaymas. The engine is bolted down and the alignment is fine for launching. I have the wiring harness in and the fuel system hooked up. The throttle linkage and stop cable are installed. I'm currently rebuilding the exhaust sytem with a makeover of the wet muffler. I don't want to go to all this trouble and have an exhaust system that is too small so that the engine won't breathe properly. I also cut a half moon in my rudder so that my (new to me) folding prop won't hit it. You see, I'm going to have half the weight on the boat and with a folding prop, this multihull should perform like a multihull.....fast.

Your rudder looks like it has its mouth wide open to swallow the prop. Alcatraz had a two blade folding prop, which allowed us to sail fast, fast, fast, as a tri should:)
Sounds like you've made serious progress.

Are you installing seat belts so you don't fly out? Be careful Phil, speed is addicting!!
