Moving South

Repairs done and everything put away, so weigh anchor and head south, right. As I toggled the up switch on the anchor windlass, nothing happened. I tried the down toggle and it went down, but the up toggle it would just twitch once and that was it. So I had to pull up my anchor by hand...all 120 feet of muddy salt water growth on chain...yuck. So I topped off with fuel and motored over to Melaque to anchor for the day and night so I can clean my bottom and watch the Charger playoff game in town. Boy, was there a lot of growth, hard and soft on the bottom of my boat. It must have been a hour of scrubbing to get it clean. Then I cleaned up myself and took the dinghy to the beach and walked to the other side of town to the one place I knew had gringo TV. Watched the Chargers beat the Titans and had a nice fish and chips(Canadien style) dinner and took a taxi back to the other side of town where my dinghy was waiting for me. In the morning I again pulled the anchor by hand and headed for the Manzanillo area. I raised the main only for stability(just 5+kph wind) and had a nice motor to Santiago while equalizing the batteries. When I got to Santiago, a lovely anchorage, I was feeling a little unsettled healthwise. I went visiting fellow cruisers in the anchorage and then tried to take my dinghy in the channel to the lagoon. At the last minute I decided to abort because the river was running to swift and I inadvertently went across some shallow rocks that my outboard was clunking on. The engine stalled and I did'nt have my paddle with me so I climbed out of the dinghy onto the rocks and cut my foot on rocky scales. I finally got the outboard started and went back to the boat. About 3am I awoke to relieve stuff from both ends and then again about an hour later then one more time before normal people wake up. Talked to Jan in Lo De Marco(IM) and she said a bug was going around in the states and here in Mexico. Anyway, I vegged all day yesterday and this morning felt good enough to go into Santiago. I did some troubleshooting on the anchor windlass and it is'nt in the switch. Its in the motor and gear assembly, so I don't have a windlass for the rest of the season. I'll have to lug one back when I return from my wonderful visit with my Princess.
