Heading North
06 March 2012 | Petit St Vincent
we departed Grenada on Saturday and sailed/motor sailed to Tyrell Bay. Winds and waves @ the bow the whole time. That really does not bother me much but the whole keeling over to where you really have to hold on - well, that is a bit of a problem.
Jim went to start the generator to run charge the batteries & it to (along with the motor) has problems keeled over. We flattened out a bit & Jim was able to get the motor started.
We set anchor, enjoyed a nice Saturday night steak dinner on board, watched a movie & hit the sack. Yes, anchored was holding just fine until about 1am when I woke up to check our surroundings (something I do every night, all night - why, I do not know). I looked out the back window of the aft cabin & felt like we were pretty close to the boat that anchored directly behind us. Trying to convince myself that I worry to much, things appear closer in the dark & try to go back to sleep I headed out to the cockpit just to make sure and get an overall view. I was right & went to wake up Jim. It took a few shakes and a reminder to put on some clothes & he quickly confirmed my findings. Life vest on I went to raise the anchor w/him on the helm. We were pretty close to our neighbor & contemplated pulling out fenders - motor started perfectly & we got out of harms way. Once anchor was up I went to wake Stephen (these guys can sleep through anything).
I basically stood watch the rest of the night. Fell asleep around 4 & woke up every 20-30minutes to look around. Went on deck around 7 and let the guys sleep a little longer.
Jim rolls out about 9:30 and commences to make his coffee. Turning on the generator only for it not to start. Evidently in our sideways position the day before while trying to turn it on the fuel could not pump to the need hence allowing air to get in. I am very pleased that Jim is mechanically inclined and was able to fix the problem and we were ready for another day.
We headed to Petit St Vincent where we are presently anchored waiting for a weather window of calmer seas and more easterly winds. It is a beautiful spot and the exclusive island is now allowing "yachties" to enjoy their Beach Bar & Grill for lunch and dinner. Maybe a short walk along the beach, to the west, but if one goes to far it is stated "Security will be glad to escort you back to your dinghy."
Pictures will have to come later.!?
