Sailboat Shopping

06 November 2020 | Fort Pierce (a little inland, for the moment)
Dana Greyson | sunny and 80s
We're sailboat shopping for our next adventure. Looking for something in the 39-42' range for returning to the West Indies.

We sailed halfway around the world in a Pearson 365. This time we'd like something that allows friends and family to have their own cabin.

I believe boats carry karma and we're looking for one that's been loved, to carry the love forward. That doesn't mean we'd reject a boat that needs work, as long as it's priced accordingly.

We recently sold our beloved trawler in Portland, Oregon to someone we know who will love her as much as we did (just as her prior owner chose us)—someone to take good care of her and go on grand adventures.

We're looking for someone who wants the same for their sailboat.

Galley Wench Tales -- clear skies for the eclipse
Cruising is one particularly spectacular way to view celestial rarities.

Nabbing a view over land has its own set of challenges. Adventures (like this) don't stop even when there's a hiatus in cruising.

And please tell me about your eclipse adventures! I would've loved to see it from the sea!

These were our go-to resources to better understand what cruising today is like, what to consider, worry about, budget for and plan where to go.

Ignore This at Your (Minor) Peril

Galley Wench Tales -- good solar day!
As boaters, we know menace goes well beyond "things that go bump in the night." In fact, during the daytime is oft when we're in the midst of things that catch us unawares. Like this....

Port Angeles Surprise

Galley Wench Tales -- good solar day!
One of the best aspects of cruising is the way it challenges our assumptions.

Here's how that happened to us in Port Angeles

Unbelievable Serendipity!

I expected we'd become boat owners again, but not this soon, or in this way....
Vessel Name: Journey
Vessel Make/Model: Pearson 365 ketch (36 1/2')
Hailing Port: Portland, Oregon USA
Crew: Wayne Seitz & Dana Greyson
About:
Wayne's the kinda guy who's comfortable parking an 80 million dollar plane in a hangar with 8" clearance on each side. Great qualities for a captain! Dana's working on her sailing skills so she'll offer more than good company and good food -- aka -- "deck fluff. [...]
Extra:
March 2012 we bought our sailboat in St. Lucia and sailed her back to Florida starting in September 2012; 1600 miles on only 62 gallons of diesel! December 2013, we traveled down the ICW then to the Florida Keys, then to the Bahamas... and back Jacksonville FL agin to work hurricane [...]
