Back on the Anchor!

07 December 2012 | Peck Lake, Hobe Sound

We finally left the marina in Ft. Pierce, and headed just 20 miles or so down the waterway to Peck Lake. It is so nice to be off the dock, and swinging on the anchor. Peck Lake is a wonderful little anchorage in Hobe Sound. The shoreline is lined with mangroves, and just a short walk through said mangroves leads to the ocean. I was told by Lynn on First Edition that this was a good place to find cowrie shells...she was right! We found one about the size of my fist, as well as a hamburger bean. Unfortunately, I am having problems downloading my pics, but I'll post some later. From peck lake

As we dinghied around the 'lake' (it's really just a wide area in the waterway) we saw all kinds of birds...heron, kingfishers, osprey, as well as a couple of manatees. It was sunny and beautiful as we walked the beach, but Alan got drenched as we were setting the anchor. About 5 minutes before we arrived, a squall came through and it poured. From peck lake

Tomorrow we will complete leg 4 off our trip. Leg 4 begins at Mile Marker 0 in Norfolk, VA, and for us, ends at Mile Marker 1019 in Lake Worth, FL. The boat is loaded with as much as we can carry, so tomorrow we will anchor next the the inlet, and then on Sunday morning, unless the weather forecast changes, we will head out the inlet and make our way across the gulf stream to the Bahamas. Our plan this year is to get onto the Little Bahama Banks (that's the beautiful clear aqua) water about 2 in the afternoon, then continue on to Great Sale Cay, a total of about 100 miles. We should have the anchor down by sunday night at 9:30. The following day we will continue on to Green Turtle Cay, where we will clear through customs. I may or may not have internet at that point, but as soon as we are able, I will post our arrival.

We're gettin' close!
