Prearing for sailing 2012

11 February 2012 | Still at West Bay Marina
Weather is already like spring
Paul has the charts out plotting our course. We are planning to leave West Bay by the end of March and take GenesisIII to Nanaimo shipyard for a checkup before setting out for the summer.
Our hope is to sail north late spring, early summer and end up in Alaska by the end of June. Will do lots of fishing and exploring along the way.
We are hoping my brother Joe will join us for the beginning leg of our journey at least and do some salmon and crab fishing.
Then when we are ready to start the Alaska voyage we are hoping to be joined by Elizabeth and Frank or Elizabeth for sure. Frank is still a working man!

Victoria

22 May 2011 | WestBay Marina
We sailed from Ladysmith to West Bay Marina, spent overnight anchored at Sidney Spit. Weather was cool but nice. Very light winds. Victoria is a beautiful city and the marina is perfect. Great facilities and we can take a water taxi to downtown Victoria.

Springtime in Ladysmith

16 May 2011 | Ladysmith
We visited GenesisIII on the weekend of May 6. Did some cleaning and met with the company that is installing a new canopy. Weather was wet and chilly. We did not go sailing because the canopy was under construction. We drove to West Bay marina to check out our new berth. Nice place. We then drove to Sooke and Port Renfrew. Had lunch at the Renfrew hotel. Very wet day. Everything is in bloom and the flowers and trees are beautiful.

New berth!!

28 March 2011 | Victoria
We have acquired a new berth at West Bay Marina in Victoria. It is a liveaboard marina and we are both very excited to get our boat moved there. We are planning to sail from Ladysmith to Victoria the last weekend of April. We are hoping to have a new dodger installed in Ladysmith before we start our new adventure.

Planning our next trip

Cold brrrrrrr!!!
We are still in Fort MacMurray Canada, and dreaming of spending time on our boat. We still have GenesisIII moored in Ladysmith on Vancouver Island and hope to go there sometime in February to start preparations for this years sailing adventures. We are both very anxious to be finished work and get to some serious cruising in our beautiful sailboat.

Our new adventure

WELCOME TO OUR BLOG!!
We are currently planning our retirement. We purchased Genesis in Portland Oregon in May 2010. Previous owners Robb & Sheryl Pulver graciously volunteered to sail with us to Victoria. We were new to the sailing world and had an awesome trip. We learned lots from our sailing partners and are very thankful. Robb and Sheryl said goodbye to us in Victoria and we then sailed unassisted to Ladysmith. It was an enjoyable adventure to say the least. This summer we have taken Genesis III on day trips around the Gulf Islands south of Nanaimo. We are still learning and we are both excited and happy with our sailboat. We hope to be on Genesis III full time by April 2011.
