Still Playing in the Keys

Since leaving Key West, we have been having a lovely time just wandering around the Keys. The weather in the Keys is, in my opinion, nearly perfect with temperatures in the upper 70s to low 80s always with a breeze that keeps it comfortable. Depending on what the winds are doing, we seek out a spot [...]

Living Your Dreams

Greetings Everyone,

This Key Fits

Greeting everyone! We escaped from Key West three days ago after a stay of almost two weeks. I say escaped as we were held captive by howling east winds which turned an intended two day stay into almost two weeks. However, Key West was great and we explored.

It's blowin' in Key West!

After spending Friday at a lovely anchorage in Newfound Harbor off Big Pine Key, we headed out on Saturday morning for Key West. It was a beautiful day and after only about three hours, we arrived at the harbor entrance and tied up to a dock at a marina in Key West. What a busy place! It is easy to see [...]

The middle Keys

Well ! Our goal has been to slow it all down and hang out here and there and not freeze. Happening! A few days ago we anchored at Shell Key early in the afternoon and again set about the arduous tasks of napping then fishing. Julie reeled in a delightful small fish and when she raised it out of the water [...]

Cruising in the Keys

We left Ft Lauderdale on Monday morning early so we could make the 7am opening of the bridge next to the marina and headed out the Port Everglades inlet to the outside as we made our way down to the Keys. It was a sunny day and the sea was fairly calm. As we were passing Miami, we were suddenly joined [...]

Florida at last!

We left the Wahoo River on the 14th and continued our southern trek through Georgia with a stop at Jekyll Island for the night. On the 15th, we left the marina mid morning hoping to time the tides correctly so that we could pass under the fixed bridges at a lower tide thus reducing some of the excitement of whether or not our antenna would scrape the underside of the bridge or worse. Thursday was a beautiful sunny day in the 70s and for the first time in a long time, Marc and I could sit in the cockpit without any jacket or sweatshirt on and at times, dare I say it, it was hot! I loved it! Though we have heard many people complain about the meandering ways of the Georgia portion of the ICW, we found it to be quite beautiful. At times, there were no houses to be seen, only beautiful marsh land filled with birds and the occasional dolphin. The most exciting part of the day for me was when Marc spotted two dolphin swimming off the bow of the boat and then they dipped under water. Marc had the feeling they were coming to play and sure enough, we looked off the stern and there they were, seemingly surfing in the wake of our boat. We quickly grabbed the video camera and the picture featured here is a shot of them. They continued surfing our wake for quite a few minutes, coming up for air and then back down for before they finally left us. It was an amazing sight and so much fun to watch! By mid afternoon we crossed over the border to Florida! We anchored in the Amelia River near Fernandina Beach for the night. Today, we are continuing south and hope to reach St. Augustine by the end of the day
