Still Playing in the Keys

Since leaving Key West, we have been having a lovely time just wandering around the Keys. The weather in the Keys is, in my opinion, nearly perfect with temperatures in the upper 70s to low 80s always with a breeze that keeps it comfortable. Depending on what the winds are doing, we seek out a spot [...]

Living Your Dreams

Greetings Everyone,

This Key Fits

Greeting everyone! We escaped from Key West three days ago after a stay of almost two weeks. I say escaped as we were held captive by howling east winds which turned an intended two day stay into almost two weeks. However, Key West was great and we explored.

It's blowin' in Key West!

After spending Friday at a lovely anchorage in Newfound Harbor off Big Pine Key, we headed out on Saturday morning for Key West. It was a beautiful day and after only about three hours, we arrived at the harbor entrance and tied up to a dock at a marina in Key West. What a busy place! It is easy to see [...]

The middle Keys

Well ! Our goal has been to slow it all down and hang out here and there and not freeze. Happening! A few days ago we anchored at Shell Key early in the afternoon and again set about the arduous tasks of napping then fishing. Julie reeled in a delightful small fish and when she raised it out of the water [...]

Cruising in the Keys

We left Ft Lauderdale on Monday morning early so we could make the 7am opening of the bridge next to the marina and headed out the Port Everglades inlet to the outside as we made our way down to the Keys. It was a sunny day and the sea was fairly calm. As we were passing Miami, we were suddenly joined [...]

You know it is getting warmer when...

Julie
You know it is getting warmer when Marc starts peeling off layers of clothing while at the helm which is what happened yesterday until he finally had to go below to get rid of all dark clothing and put on light colored clothing in order to be comfortable. It has, thankfully, been getting warmer every day.

We left Daytona on Friday and continued down the ICW, and finding they had no space for at the New Smyrna Beach Marina we finally anchored in the wide but shallow waters of the Mosquito Lagoon. In spite of its name, it was a beautiful location with no mosquitoes in sight! We rose on Saturday morning to stand in the cockpit and watch a beautiful sunrise over the very calm waters with a group of dolphins playing next to the boat. It was so lovely and with no other boats in sight, it felt as though we were the only ones on the planet! Very peaceful!

But with the urge to get further south, we pulled up the anchor and continued on. Saturday proved to be warmer still and we entered the Indian River continuing through Titusville, Cape Canaveral, and Cocoa. At one point we spotted a number of boats together along with a couple of police boats and looking through binoculars, we determined it was a dolphin research team and it looked as though they were releasing a dolphin back into the water. By mid afternoon we arrived at Melbourne Beach and decided to stay the night at the Melbourne Harbor Marina. While tying up to the dock, we got our first look at a manatee who was swimming under the dock. The temperatures reached the mid 70s and we quickly changed into shorts to enjoy the warm weather. That evening, we dressed up and headed over to the Chart House Restaurant on the marina property for a wonderful dinner of prime rib for Marc and filet mignon for me. We had experienced a dinner at a Chart House restaurant when we were in Atlantic City, NJ where they offered an incredible chocolate lava cake a la mode which needed to be ordered at least 30 minutes in advance for the chef to prepare it. Well, of course, we had to experience it again so we ordered it last night and it was just as wonderful and decadent as we remembered! After dinner we waddled back to the boat and slept the sleep of the well-fed and satisfied!

This morning we were up early and departed the Melbourne Harbor Marina at around 7:30 am (the photo is of the marina as we departed) and are hoping to reach Fort Pierce by this afternoon. It is another beautiful day and the temperatures are supposed to again reach the mid to upper 70s with light winds. It looks like this weather will continue for a couple more days so tomorrow we may “pop out” at the Fort Pierce inlet to the outside to give ourselves a break from the bridges of the ICW which become more numerous in southern Florida.
